Hi All,I need to create a VPN connection on Windows 7. I setup a new Connection and select Conect to a Workspace. But the connectin created, are only in my modem and not over my Network, i.e., it's creates only a dial up connection instead a VPN connection.I'm using a Vaio laptop VGN-SZ670N. A did the setup in 20 minutes and everything is working very well (Yes. it's a Version of Windows Vista that works !!!!!).....Can anyone help-me ???ThanksArlindo

hello, i got exactly the same problem here - i am connected over lan. this lan has no internet connection. that is normal. we go in the internet over one server here - i need to set up an vpn conection to that one - i got the ip - internal one - 192.168.x.x - i can even ping it. whenever i set up a vpn connection windows 7 wants to dial in the internet first - there is no option i can see to use the existing lan connection for this vpn connection here... in the process of creating a vpn connection i am never able to select my existing lan !!! ??? why?? Thank you

I know this is an old thread, but I had a hard time figuring this out myself. After you click “Connect to a workplace”, “use my internet connection” there is a checkmark box that says “Don’t connect now; just set it up so I can connect later” Put your internal address in the internet address box, go through the rest of the setup and it should work.

I have the same problem. The accepted answer that the OP "didn't see" the obvious option to use the internet connection, is simply preposterous. My Network and Sharing Center shows my connection to the Internet and domain just fine. After adding the VPN connection, it appears to be associated with a non-existant modem, instead of the WAN Miniport it should use.
